This notice explains what personal information the Wine Cellar application ("App") collects, how it's used, and who it may be shared with. It supplements our Terms and Conditions and applies to anyone with an account, including customers of a wine shop's branded version of the App.
We collect the information you provide directly:
We also automatically collect limited technical data needed to operate and secure the App: IP address and timestamp on login attempts (to detect abuse), and basic session information.

We do not sell your personal information.
When you scan a wine label, the photo is sent to a third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) to identify the wine and generate details like tasting notes and estimated drink windows. These providers process the image to return a result but are not used to build your personal profile. AI-generated details are estimates and may be inaccurate — see our Terms, Section 6 for the full disclaimer.
If your account is affiliated with a wine shop's branded version of the App, you control what that shop can see about your cellar from your account Settings:
You can change this setting at any time, and it takes effect immediately. The shop never has access to your login credentials or payment details.
Separately, when you use the Ask feature, your question is recorded so the shop can see, in aggregate, what its customers are looking for (for example "customers often ask for Italian reds"). The shop sees this data without your name attached — including a list of recent questions shown anonymously.
Beyond the AI provider described in Section 4, we use a small number of other services to operate the App:
Each of these providers only receives the information necessary to perform its specific function.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual wines at any time, or permanently delete your entire account and all associated data from Settings — this removes your profile, cellar data, and history, and cannot be undone.

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage to remember your email address if you choose "Remember me" and a small set of display preferences. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Passwords are stored as secure one-way hashes, never in plain text. We use standard safeguards to protect your data in transit and at rest, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
The App is intended for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the legal drinking age in their jurisdiction.
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. We will notify users of material changes. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated notice.
